This painting was amongst the initial group of paintings brought to the US in the early 1980s by Fingerhut Gallery. Private collector met the artist and through his interpreter was told that this painting had special meaning to him. While his movement was still underground in China, Jiang and his colleagues opened The Monkey Gallery, and this painting of the Monkey King (a Chinese legend), was the Gallery’s icon on opening night.
