A vintage black and white Man Ray's photograph, printed by the artist or under his control, during his life time, portrait of Ava Gardner in a 16th century costume as seen in the film "Pandora and the Flying Dutchman". Stamped on the reverse by Man Ray "MAN RAY PARIS", executed in 1950 in connection with the above mentioned film directed by A. Lewin (Hollywood 1950, edited in 1951). Photo was later stamped also with the ADAGP copyright warning. This photo was used as a model for a larger painted version in which the Ava Gardner portrait as well as the background were depicted as a stained glass window with the inscription This shut is very, very rare.The owner of this photo has several documents on the Man Ray collaboration with Albert Lewin for the film Pandora, as well as about Man Ray and Lewin friendship, and Man Ray in Hollywood (1940-1950).
