Art Brokerage: David Monette was born in Indianola, Mississippi on April 2, 1943. His interest in Fine Arts started when he was a child, somewhere around 10 years old. He grew up there until the age of 16 years old and moved to Los Angeles. David Monette is a self taught artist although he attended classes in Fine Arts in 1967. After attending Manual Art School he worked as a mechanic before finally getting into his true profession: Fine Arts. As a young artist he used watercolors, gouaches and pastels. He started to paint with Oil in 1969. David’s first exhibition was at Carmelita Art Gallery in west Los Angeles, 1970. He moved to Europe in Portugal in 1972 before moving to the “White Island” Ibiza, Spain. Ibiza became his new home base although he was traveling on and off the island. During this period he developed a passion for all the beauty that the island inspired and transcribed it into beautiful artwork. David’s style as he callsl “Open Windowism” is a dimension of Contemporary Realism (and Surrealism) like looking through an open window... also described as an illusion that let you see and feel the atmosphere of motion. Over the course of his life he has created numerous Still Life, Portrait and Landscape paintings. David Monette managed to express his madness into love for his work. He returned to Los Angeles from 1979 until 1988 for family reasons. He finally came back to Ibiza from 1988 until 2008. Private collectors from around the world, mostly from Europe have bought his paintings.
