Provenance & Extra Info
Exhibited as part of the "Robert Motherwell/Beacon" Print Retrospective at LoRiver Gallery in Beacon, NY from October 23-December 6, 2004. This is Robert Motherwell's first print collaboration with master printer Irv Hollander at the Hollander Workshop, New York City. In this print Motherwell's primary protagonists black and white do battle in a face off of life against death, light against darkness. The imagery is directly related to the "Beside the Sea" paintings Motherwell was doing at the time. A fine example of Motherwell's early print work. This print exists in two editions: a limited edition signed & numbered by the artist and a facsimile poster edition. This is from the the original limited edition. These are highly collectible prints from the List Art program. The program commissioned artists to design & execute original work to promote cultural events in the US.
