Lionel Dougy, 1952-2008. Quiet, honest, uncomplicated, muted tones - all apply to the works of Paris-born Lionel Dougy. They also apply to the man. Reticent to talk about himself, Lionel uses his paintings to convey his philosophy - to paint the world around him as he sees it. His work has an etheral, dream-like quality to it, restful to view with pleasing color combinations, toned to enhance each other. “I can only capture a small part of what has been put here by our Creator.” Lionel learned painting and marketing through Dougey's association with artists in Stuttgart, Germany. Lionel Dougey's family moved to the Bavarian city when he was 15. Three years later Dougy came to the U.S. He joined the army, serving 10 years, the last 6 as an artist. “I believe that the highest form of art is not to create what is, but to create what could be.”
