Ugo Rondinone was born in Brunnen, Switzerland, in 1964, and he currently lives and works in New York. He studied at the Hochschule für angewandte Kunst in Vienna from 1986-90. Solo exhibitions include the Musée National d'Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2003); Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Australia (2003); Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne (2004); Whitechapel Art Gallery, London (2006); Creative Time: Art on the Plaza, Battery Park, New York (2007); and Hell, Yes!, New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (2007). In 2009, Rondinone had solo museum exhibitions at MUSAC, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla, León, Spain, and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebaek, Denmark. Rondinone has been included in notable group exhibitions such as the Berlin Biennale (1998); Liverpool Biennale, Great Britain (2002); 7th Lyon Biennale, France (2003); 54th Carnegie International, Pittsburgh (2004); and Super Vision at the ICA (2006), when his work was introduced to Boston audiences. Rondinone represented Switzerland, along with Urs Fischer, in the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007).
