


Jorgen Bechmann was born in Odense, Denmark 1945. He lives in the UK, Israel, Lebanon, Africa - then moves to New York in the late 60’s, studying silkscreen-printing techniques with Andy Warhol - and at Gruener Janura the foil-engraving method (as applied for Klimt, Hundertwasser…) The “Bauhaus” inspirations of Europe merge with his Art-Deco fascination – towards creative picture-making.
He becomes ”world famous” in Denmark 1978 when driving J.A. Schade
to his final resting place next to Hans Christian Andersen
in a colorful painted hearse ! But it is in Australia his works first unfolds in raptures of joy, in simplicity and with great clarity.
Creating paintings & graphics of contageous joi-de-vivre quality.
In 1984 his painting ”WINNING” is awarded the Americas Cup prize,
and in 1988 his illustrated book ”Modern Australian Dreamtimes” receives National Honors with a solo-show of 88 works at Sydney Opera House. His works are loved, exhibited and collected, worldwide.
Since the mid 1980´s he´s sharing studio (+life) with Gabriella Moore.
