JULES OLITSKI ART

JULES OLITSKI BIOGRAPHY

B. 1922 - Russian artist, Jules Olitski studied in Paris and then moved to the United States to train in New York, where he taught and worked as a sculptor. Influenced by color-field painters and Hans Hoffman, he stayed with Abstract Expressionism while many of his colleagues were adopting the Pop Art movement of the 1960’s. During this period, Jules Olitski established the Post-Painterly Abstraction style along with Helen Frankenthaler. Olitskis' technique centered on the elimination of brushstrokes, using stains and sprays of contrasting colors. Since the 1970’s Jules Olitski’s work has developed into a more textural style. He is represented and collected worldwide.
