Story / Additional InfoThis color photograph by Thomas Mangelsen called "The Peace Dance", is signed by Thomas Mangelsen and Jane Goodall. It commemorates the day (March 19, 2003) when Mangelsen and Goodall, together on the banks of the Platte River in Nebraska, witnessed the annual migration of sandhill cranes and snow geese. For 2 hours Jane and Thomas watched thousands in cranes in the cornfield near Tom's cabin. When reflecting on the experience, Jane said "cranes are symbols of peace in many cultures and suddenly I felt sure they were bringing us a message--that although there will be dark days ahead, in the end peace will return to the Earth."
