Art Brokerage: Adrian Heath British Artist: b. 1920-1992. Born in Burma, Adrian Heath grew up in Dorset. In 1938, he studied under Stanhope Forbes at the Newlyn School of Art and at the Slade School in Oxford in 1939. When the war started, he joined the RAF and was taken prisoner in Germany in 1942. During his three years imprisonment, he met Terry Frost and inspired him to paint. After the war, he made visits to St Ives and became acquainted with Ben Nicholson. Heath was the main link between the St Ives School and the London based Constructionists. He began exhibiting with the London Group from 1949; it was here he showed his first abstract works. Between 1951 and 1953, he held exhibitions in his studio in London, involving artists such as William Scott, Roger Hilton and Frost. His paintings tend towards abstract and semi-abstract in oil and acrylic, but he also worked in collage and created a series of constructions in 1953-54. In 1953, he published the essay 'Abstract Art: Its origins and meaning.' In 1954, he was appointed Chairmain of the Artists International Association, a post he held for a decade. He also taught at Bath Academy of Art from 1955 to 1976, and at the University of Reading in the 1980s. He is well-represented in collections worldwide, including the Tate, British Museum and the Brooklyn Museum in New York. Listings wanted.
