Art Brokerage: John W. Bentley American Artist: b. 1880-1951. Born in Paterson, NJ on Jan. 3, 1880, Bentley was a pupil of George Bridgman, Frank V. DuMond, and Robert Henri. While based in Woodstock, NY, he made trips to California where he painted on the Monterey Peninsula, the Santa Barbara area and at Mission Capistrano. His work is impressionistic in style and often depicts the rural New York State countryside. His California paintings utilize a 'blocky' brushstoke and high keyed colors, often pinks and blues. He titled most of his paintings verso and his signature is in a deep black pigment, occasionally in a red pigment. Listings wanted.
