Kevin Frest - United States
Art Brokerage: Kevin Frest American Photographer: Kevin Frest has been a fine art publisher, artist agent and professional photographer for over 30 years. Throughout his career, he has been instrumental in the development and success of some of our finest contemporary artists and sculptors. Born and raised in the Midwest, Kevin Frest's fascination with neon began with his family-operated Dairy Queen in Gary, Indiana. On the roof of the store his parents managed was a beautiful glowing neon ice cream cone. From that point on, no matter how far he would roam, that glowing cone represented the idea of home and family to him. In fact, when Frest established Crystal Haze Studios in San Francisco, California, during the early 1980s, he experimented with blending neon light with sand-carved crystals and created a whole new medium. As such, Crystal Haze Studios became a pioneering force in the resurgence of etched glass as a popular artistic and decorative medium, and from there, Frest went on to collaborate with the "Father of Art Deco", ERTE, introducing the art market to Erte Luminaires. This brings us to his current project, #YourMomentOfNeon, a surreal and painterly form of street photography. Using neon as a thematic device, he explores the boroughs of New York and finds scenes bathed in saturated neon colors that tell stories about the energy. The nostalgic element of his work is organic and pure with the addition of Frest's own heart and soul. His passion for neon and its ability to light the night with its saturated glow is captured by his ability to move like a shadow through the streets of New York. Each image exhibiting the visceral feel of the moment united with timeless urban subject matter as well as the characters that inhabit these compositions. Excitement, and pathos of urban nightlife.
