YArt Brokerage: Loretta Lux German Artist: b. 1969. Loretta Lux was born in Dresden, East Germany and is a fine art photographer known for her surreal portraits of young children. Lux has received the Infinity Award for Art from the International Center of Photography, had her work exhibited widely and held in various public collections. Lux graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts in Munich in the 1990s, and debuted at the Yossi Milo gallery, New York in 2004. The show put both Yossi Milo and Loretta Lux on the map, selling out and setting prices never before seen from a new gallery. Lux executes her compositions using a combination of photography, painting and digital manipulation. Her work usually features young children. She originally trained as a painter at Munich Academy of Art, and is influenced by painters such as Agnolo Bronzino, Diego Velázquez, Phillip Otto Runge. Her work likes to show a child in a lost paradise. She alters the children's heads on photoshop to make it bigger to look like a doll. She also photshops out the shadow in the photo. The colours she uses in her work are pastel colours, and her backgrounds are often painted by herself. She dresses the children up so that you can not tell the gender of the child. She has had portfolios featured in fine art magazines. Listings wanted.
