Story / Additional InfoLucian Freud (1922 - 2011) Title: Ib Medium: Original Etching, 1984, on Arches White paper, signed by the artist with initials in pencil, with 3 deckle edges. Size: image: 11½ h × 11½ w in (29.3 × 29.5 cm); Sheet: 22¼ h × 20½ w in (57 × 53 cm) Note: The sitter is Isabel Boyt (b.1960), one of the artist's daughters by Suzy Boys. He had first painted her when she was a child in “Large Interior, Paddington”. Later she was the subject of a painting “Ib (1977/8 Cleveland Museum of Art). Further paintings followed including Ib and her husband (1992 - Private Collection) and Ib reading (1997), several drawings and two more prints. An even grey tone was used for the whole image, apart from the face, which is lighter. In addition to the usual hatching, cross hatching, directional and cross contour line. By the early 1940's, Freud had begun painting full time. To this day, London is Freud's permanent home from which he rarely leaves. The Australian art critic, Robert Hughes, has described Freud as the greatest living realist painter. More recently, others have called him the greatest painter of our time. Lucian Freud's work can be found in museum and private collections throughout the world.
