Story / Additional InfoMarcel Mouly was a French painter associated with the Fauvism movement of the early 20th century. His colorful, abstracted paintings were influenced by both the Cubism of Pablo Picasso and the bold palette of Henri Matisse, and were shown alongside the latter’s paintings in the Salon d'Automne in Paris.

Art Brokerage: Park West Artist: Marcel Mouly French Artist: b. 1918-2008. Original paintings wanted for private collectors. Mouly was the last living student of Picasso and a protégé of Fernand Leger. He was considered one of the greatest contemporary artists of the century. He is influenced by Braque, Matisse, and mostly Picasso. Matisse influenced Mouly in the Fauvist use of color that is apparent in all Mouly's paintings. He studied painting at the French Academies and later became the protogé of the sculptor Jacques Lipchitz, from whom he learned about Cubism. Mouly won the Chevalier de l'Order des Artes et Letteres in 1957, and the Premier Prix de Lithographie in 1973. Mouly has exhibited all over the world and he currently has paintings hanging in the Musee Nationale d' Art Moderne, Paris, the Musée de Geneve and the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.
