Art Brokerage: Mark Evans British Artist: British artist Mark Evans is the pioneer of "leather micro sculpting". Having studied art it was a freak accident that moved him from traditional materials, such as charcoals, oils, and acrylics to leather and knives. In 2000, while trying to scrape a blood stain off a new leather jacket he was just given at Christmas. As he scratched through the blood and into the surface of the jacket, it was that moment that, his technique was born. His process takes incredible patience and immense attention to detail, he removes less than a tenth of a millimeter of the leather surface. Using various knives Evans cuts through the layers of dark skin, removing just enough skin until he exposes the varying tones of lighter tanned suede (or nap) beneath. The deeper he etches the lighter the tone, but there is no going back, one mistake and it's over. Evans' works , whose pieces can command prices of up to £500,000, are held in private collections around the world, and his collectors vary from Saudi Royalty to the Hollywood A List. Recently his work "Grace Thunders" was unveiled as an epic multi panel installation inside the main lobby at the St Regis Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Represented by various galleries around the world, his shows include: 2009 – Skin Deep London, 2010 – Art Basel, Switzerland, 2011 – Primal Solo Show in Los Angeles, 2012 – Furious Affection Solo Show at Frieze London, 2015 – Grace Thunders Private Commission show inside St Regis, Kuala Lumpur, 2016 – Process & Progress Solo Show in London and 2017 – Retrospective Solo Show in Lugano.
