Story / Additional Info : This listing is for a rare, original wood sculpture titled Diva by world-renowned contemporary artist, Markus Pierson. This sculpture is exquisite and intricately depicts a sultry coyote with crimson curls dressed in a black dress and heels who is resting against a large palm tree. This ornate artwork is also signed on the back of the base, and is an artist proof. The total edition for Diva was 250. As far as I can ascertain from my research, this sculpture is the only ARTIST PROOF created by Markus Pierson for this design. It is literally a one of a kind artwork. When she was first released, Diva sold out almost immediately, in 1988. Markus Pierson is a legendary modern artist who earned recognition for his iconic Coyote sculpture and painting series. His artwork was inspired by Joni Mitchells song, Coyote. Pierson commenced his artistic career by painting billboards. When he could not afford to take a wedding present to a relative, he gifted a self-made romantic coyote-themed painting. The attendees of the wedding went wild for the work! Today, Piersons artwork impresses both critics and collectors alike as they are exhibited throughout the world. Diva is in excellent, preowned condition. One of the palm tree fronds near the back of the sculpture is slightly chipped. Please view my photographs, as returns will not be accepted for this piece. Diva looks absolutely spectacular in person and is a great example of Piersons unique pop art style. The seven fronds of the palm tree are removable, and will be removed and packed separately prior to shipment to prevent damage.

Art Brokerage: Markus Pierson American Artist and Sculptor: b. 1961. Markus Pierson say: "You know, I wasn't always an artist. In fact, I was a journeyman bookkeeper when I almost kicked the bucket back about twelve years ago. Thankfully I didn't, and when I woke up in the hospital I told everyone I knew that the bookkeeper was dead after all - but in his place was a man who was going to become a successful artist. They thought I was nuts. I wasn't. Two years later, in June 1986, I started the Coyote Series. I was living in Jackson Michigan, a town perennially voted the worst place to live in America. My inspiration was a Joni Mitchell song "Coyote". A friend of mine put it on a tape and I listened. At the time I was 26, a dirt poor billboard painter living in a tiny one room apartment. I was so poor, in fact, that I couldn't even afford a shower curtain to serve as a wedding present for two good friends who were getting married in the Southwest. I figured they might like one of my Coyote drawings so I did a romantic one and took it there - the people at the wedding went nuts! Well, you know how these things go - somebody knew somebody who knew somebody in the art business, and within a year my art was being sold in over a hundred art galleries across the country."
