    Art Brokerage: Minoru Kawabata Japanese Artist: b. 1911-2001. Minoru Kawabata was a painter affiliated with the New York School of Abstract Expressionism, as well as Color Field painting. Born in Tokyo in 1911, Kawabata later enrolled in the Department of Western Painting at the Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1934. From 1937 to 1939, he studied in Paris and Italy, before returning to Tokyo to hold his first solo show at Mitsukoshi Gallery in 1940, and subsequently won the prestigious Saburi Prize. Between 1950 and 1955, he taught at Tama University of Fine Arts in Tokyo and founded Skinseisaku Kyokai (the New Creation Society). In 1958, Kawabata moved to New York, where he would connect with the New York School of Abstract Expressionists, and in 1960, he held his first New York solo exhibition at Betty Parsons Gallery.
