Art Brokerage: Peter Gerakaris American Artist: Originally raised a ''free-range-child'' in rural NH, Peter's work is now exhibited and collected around the globe. Earning a BFA from Cornell University and an MFA from Hunter College, where he also received the Tony Smith Prize, he has been awarded numerous distinctions, residencies, and fellowships. His oil paintings, accordion books, and works on paper seek to tickle the retina and mind by engaging Nature-Culture dialectics through a detailed cosmology of paint—a distinct terrain some have described as ''Post-Pop Botanic''. Thematically, his work also attempts to reconcile the wonderment of childhood with the cerebral nature of adulthood. All of Gerakaris' artworks are painted and drawn by hand, which he considers a humanizing antidote to the deceptively ''HD'' aesthetic of contemporary life. Distinctions range from inclusion in the U.S. Department of State's Art in Embassies Program, the Edwin Austin Abbey Fellowship at the National Academy of Fine Arts, the Clowes Foundation Full-Fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center, and the Sun Room Honorarium at Wave Hill, to residencies at the Red Gate Gallery (Beijing), and the Bronx Museum of the Arts. In addition to solo shows at Untitled Fine Art (NYC), Wave Hill (NYC), and Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts (NYC), Peter has exhibited internationally and nationally at: Shizaru Gallery (London); Chinese Contemporary Gallery (Beijing); the Doors Feature Exhibition (Seoul, Korea); Rocketart (AUS); the Bronx Museum (NYC); Heather James Fine Art (Palm Desert, CA); Wave Hill (NYC); Daniel Weinberg Gallery (LA); and the National Academy of Fine Arts (NYC). His work is featured in many prominent public and private collections, including The U.S. Department of State Art in Embassies Program Permanent Collection, Citibank, the Shirley L. & Herbert J. Semler Foundation, the John H. Friedman Collection, the Stephen P. Hanson Collection, and the Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection. Listings wanted by Art Brokerage.
