Medium: Original Screenprint, in 20 colours , 2012, on Somerset wove paper, with full margins, signed by the artist in pencil. Size: Image size: 570 x 400 mms ; Paper size 700 x 530 mms (27.5” x 20 ⅞” inches). Published by: Pallant House Gallery, Chichester. Condition: In very good condition with nice fresh colours. Note: Pallant House Gallery collaborated with Sir Peter Blake to produce this exclusive 20 colour screen print based on ‘The Beatles 1962’. The edition was produced to coincide with the major retrospective exhibition Peter Blake: Pop Music held in 2012. ‘The Beatles 1962’, which celebrates it’s 50th year, is Blake’s memorable group portrait of the Fab Four, painted as if it was itself an album cover. Talking to the critic Mervyn Levy at the time, Blake rather quaintly said: ‘At the moment I’m working on a large conversation piece of the Liverpool song group, The Beatles. Each of these chaps is closely associated with the city and I hope the local fans will find in this picture a visual significance that will somehow match the mood of the music.” The work mimics the vagaries of the print process with its coloured auras which can happen in print through mis-registration. The work is also a response to the design of record sleeves and fan magazines from the early 1960s.
