Art Brokerage: Peter Karis American Artist: b. 1942-2015. Peter Karis was born on March 29, 1942 in Jersey City, New Jersey. In 1964 he received his BFA in painting from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Karis works in acrylics and the subject matter is usually figurative but impressionistic, with maximum color, conveying emotion and power. The work tends to draw you into a memory of your own, more evocative than descriptive, the viewer tends to become a participant. Karis' paintings were recently nominated to participate in the 2005 International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy. Sponsored by the United Nations and the Italian government the Biennale represented artists from over 70 nations. Karis has won numerous awards for his work including a Juno Award, the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy for his work on the cover of the Ian Thomas album Levity. A resident of South Carolina, Karis continues to exhibit his work throughout the United States and in Europe. Sadly, Peter passed away on January 31, 2015 with his family at his side.
