Art Brokerage: Richard Hudson British Artist: b. 1954. Richard Hudson (b. 1954, Yorkshire, United Kingdom) is a British Sculptor whose organic sculptures are shown internationally and collected widely. He began working with sculpture at a relatively late age after many years of traveling. He is best known for his work in polished mirrored steel, bronze and marble with a number of Monumental works on public display. His "work on the female figure but has of late worked with an abstract expression. His soft lines and voluptuous, nearly bombastic style combined with inspiration from Modernism’s great names like Henry Moore, Jean Arp and Constantin Brancusi rocketed his career forward." Hype: excessive publicity and exaggerated media coverage resulting in an elevated popularity designed to generate a need among consumers, often without regard to the actual quality of the product being hyped. Part of the aesthetic strategy of Richard Hudson is to revive the exaggerated curves of the ancestral feminine archetype in all her sexual symbolism, with a modern twist that provokes our own capriciousness – yet satisfies the need it creates. Quality is in no way compromised. In effect, artistry, mastery, humor and even a touch of the profane nourish this artist. At first glance the observer simply sees the exaggeration in itself and, perhaps, the implied parody of a passing trend. The essence of the piece unfolds last. This subtle controversy, desired by the artist, raises the perception on the limits of art itself and the very concepts of market, power, sexuality and society. Listings wanted.
