Story / Additional InfoThe “girl” in the painting is Sherstiuk’s wife, Russian actress, Elena Mayorova. Nine months after Sherstiuk’s died of cancer on May 23, 1998, Mayorova died under tragic circumstances, when she set fire to her dress while on a staircase in the entrance of her house. With burns 85% of body surface actress was admitted to the Institute Sklifosovsky, where she died. To this day, no one knows whether the grief-stricken Mayorova’s death was an accident or intentional.

Art Brokerage: Sergei Sherstiuk Russian Artist: Sergei Sherstiuk as a 20th century Russian artist. He is known for primarily working in the medium of painting, typically with a style of Hyperrealism. He received his art education at Shevchenko Art Institute in Kiev. He painted through the Fall of the Soviet Union, which had a profound impact on his work. Around the time of the Fall, he started painting more confrontational, sometimes violent scenes which can be seen in his Russian Roulette series of paintings. He was married to Russian actress Elena Mayorova. He died of cancer on May 23, 1998 Listings wanted.
