Stephen J. Sotnick - United States

Art Brokerage: Stephen J. Sotnick American Artist: b. 1948. Sotnick is an American Artist born February 28, 1948- New York. He is recognized as an accomplished Fine Artist as well as a Graphic Artist, Curator of Contemporary Art and Fashion Designer. His love of art began as a young student where he was quickly recognized for his extraordinary talent. Stephen attended Fullerton College where he worked as an assistant in the Art Department. He subsequently followed his passion at Otis Institute of Fine Art in Los Angeles, and next went on to The University of Cal-State at Fullerton. There he was named the chairman of Student Exhibitions. His instinctive ability as a curator resulted in his creation of the Shop City Gallery an Avant-Garde exhibition space in Fullerton. He mounted a prize winning, one-man exhibition of his own large Assemblages which launched his professional career. Spurred on by his initial success he then founded downtown Los Angeles's first Avant-garde Gallery. He is responsible for curating over one hundred exhibitions. The scope of the featured artists was expansive, from sculpture, to painting, to ceramic, to performance, music, and art installations. The artist lets his new works evolve out of his last creation until he exhausts a style and discovers, in his last piece, the path to a new series. Barbara Haskell Senior Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, and Oliver Andrews, Head of the Sculpture Department at U.C.L.A. awarded him first prize at the University of Cal-State at Northridge’s Annual Sculpture exhibition. Sotnick’s oeuvre as an artist is also wide-ranging. He has served as a Fashion Designer for The Aron Group in New York City and freelancer for Bonnie Sportswear, Disney, Bongo Jeans, Quicksilver, British Knights, KROQ,, Loose Marbles and many more. He illustrated Cowboy Books for Talei Publications which included renderings of Earp Brothers, Doc Holiday, Johnny Ringo, Wild Bill Hickok and others. He has participated in many one man and group shows. The work is in the Los Angeles Institute of contemporary Art, The Laguna Beach Museum of Art, The Newport Harbor Art Museum, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Philadelphia Museum, and The de Young Museum San Francisco. Corporate and Private collections are vast.
