These materials , originally not intended for the fine arts, were adopted by Soulie at the time his studio was in the Bastille district was dominated by artisanal activity related to the manufacture of mobilier. The use of carborundum in his painting is also directly related to its facilities on volcanoes: the silicon compound is not pure in nature than in volcano exhalations. The technique of painted photograph, or " quality, paint " as he calls it , is based on large format prints in black and white photographs taken during his many travels around the world, it covers ink , acrylic , varnishes and carborundum .
