Art Brokerage: (1887-1981) Jules Rene Herve was born in Langres, in the eastern part of France in 1887. Herve began his artistic studies at an evening school in Langres. He went on to study at the School of Decorative Art in Paris and at the Fine Art School. The Salon of French Artists first exhibited his work, and by 1910 he was one of their most important artists. In 1914, he received the silver medal from the Association of French Artists. Due to the start of World War I, Herve was forced to put his artistic career on hold and joined the army. When the war ended in 1920, Herve continued his career as a full time artist, and in 1924 he received a traveling scholarship from the French government and as a result traveled all through Europe. His work earned awards including the Gold Medal from the Association of French Artists in 1925, and the gold medal from the International Paris Exhibition in 1937. Herve preferred to be away from other artists and remained out of the public eye. Herve passed away in 1981. Today his work can be found in collections in Pads, Langares, Saint-Etienne, Annecy, Tourcoing, France, the Chicago Art Institute, and the Dahesh Museum in New York City. Herve is best known for doing genre, city scenes, and landscape paintings. He had a talent for revealing the beauty and uniqueness of Parisian street scenes. His work communicates the life and atmosphere of Paris by capturing its charm, light and beauty
