Provenance / HistoryFrom 1989 to today Doug Wylie has been an artist and designer in ceramics, bronze, and pewter. Doug’s mission is to express joy, balance, celebration, and grace in his art. Techniques range from accurate representation to a stylized motion influenced interpretation. Bronzes. Doug primarily designs and creates sculpture pieces that depict marine life – whales, dolphins, manta rays, octopi, turtles and more. Based on careful and thoughtful interpretation of marine life and form, he creates original sculpture pieces in clay, then collaborates with various foundries to oversee their reproduction into bronze statuary ranging from small tabletop statuettes to monumental publicly displayed statues. His bronzes have been and are still being shown in galleries in Hawaii and the California coast, and actively on the Internet. Ceramics. Doug has also designed and created and extensive line of marine life/” whale tail” ceramic ware for production and resale. His famous signature piece, the Whale-Tail Mug, has sold in the tens of thousands throughout the world. Doug personally designs and creates all original ceramic pieces, selects glazing and finishing, and produces the final original prototypes. He then facilitated the mass production of the pieces including construction of the plaster molds for high volume production and then overseeing final production of items for resale.
