The poems selected for the book were written by Octavio Paz in Mexico in 1971. Motherwell's illustrations perfectly portray the mood of Paz's poems, which paint a picture of the urban nightmare of Mexico City. Colophon sheet is signed in pencil by Paz and Motherwell and numbered. A copy is included with the lithograph.
