Provenance / HistoryThis painting was done as an metaphorical origin story of the American Poet, Ross Gay. Ross was a student of mine who has succeeded mightily in the world of free ranging power poetry in the the use of observation to drive the structure of his poems. This is in practice, what I do in paintings...I follow the paint itself as it suggests the next steps....a method of automatic connectivity to the gesture and position of marks and color. The painting is throughly American Expressive Abstraction.....having its roots in my mentors, Grace Hartigan and Bill DeKooning. The imagery arrives suddenly...completely. This work has been included in numerous exhibitions.
Story / Additional InfoAdditionally, this post âOctopus Meditationsâ painting explores the emergent principles of visual perception and connectivity to memory. The basis of the physical processes comes from an understanding consciousness as fundamental to reality and to the phenomena of non-locality which particles enjoy. Energy fields are seen as consciousness fields (the biochemist Rupert Sheldrake refers to these fields as "morphic resonances") in which information is shared with other sentient receivers. The abstract expressionist ethos is the same idea. Gesture pulverizes the blank canvas by action strokes and emotively driven autonomic responses containing three distinct divisions: sympathetic, parasympathetic and enteric....all of which belong in the physical manifestation of emotional expressiveness
