Art Brokerage: Mark English American Artist: b. 1933. Mark English was born in Hubbard, Texas in 1933. He attended the University of Texas before enrolling at the Art Center College of Design in California, where he later graduated in 1960. From 1965 to 1975, Mark English was the leading magazine illustrator in America. Before pursuing his fine art exclusively his unique style was easily recognizable from such national publications as, McCall's Redbook, Good Housekeeping, Time Magazine, The Saturday Evening Post and Sports Illustrated, Atlantic Monthly among others. He has created thirteen stamps for the United States Postal Service. In 1989, Advertising Age chose him as one of the top three illustrators in America and in 1982 he was named to Ad Week's All American creative team. He was elected in 1983 to The Illustrators Hall of Fame in New York, joining such notable illustrators as N.C Wyeth, Maxfield Parrish and Frederick Remington. In 1990, English dedicated his creative energies solely to his fine art. Free to explore and develop his own vision, his paintings have undergone a process of veiling and blurring and have emerged as spellbinding scenes of a tonalist mode. These moody and textured paintings of the American landscape have been the focus of his fine art in the last decade. Mark's work appears in many private collections and has been exhibited in individual and group shows throughout the United States, Canada and Japan; including the Nelson Gallery in Kansas City, The Smithsonian Institute and the Brandy Wine Museum.
