    Art Brokerage: Phil Gilkerson American Artist: b. 1936-1964. Phil Gilkerson was born in 1936 on a farm in central Illinois. He studied with Leon Franks with whom he traveled to Europe for the purpose of making a study of the Old Masters. He painted with other artists of his time including Clarence McGrath and Lynn Gertenbach. He is known for his portraits of individuals from the southwest and around the word. Mr. Gilkerson was a winner of the John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship in 1961. Walter T. Foster selected one of his paintings to appear in his latest art publication. Phil was both a painter, and teacher. He died in 1964 under mysterious circumstances. Though determined a suicide stemming from the effects of Medically prescribed experimental drugs, his mother long believed there was more to the story. Listings wanted.
