Art Brokerage: Ptolemy Mann British Artist: b. 1972. From afar, Ptolemy Mann's gradient-filled abstract weavings appear to be contemporary color-field paintings. Mann is known for intricate Bauhaus-inspired textile pieces made on an upright dobby loom. Her works range from wall-mounted works to functional objects and are made from mercerized cotton that she hand-dyes. Among her most popular works are ikat rugs, which she has designed since 2014; these dip-dyed flatwoven pieces exemplify Mann's self-described style of "chromatic minimalism," a clean and elegant aesthetic that relies heavily on linear geometries. Mann's painterly works often aim to transform their surroundings, and she has produced many site-specific pieces. Among these is a 2019 commission for Tate Modern that is permanently installed at the museum's restaurant. In addition to her work as a commercial textile designer, Mann also paints on paper to further explore the emotional pull and soothing potential of color. Listings wanted.
